Program Expectations

What the program expects

Students are expected to serve the Mount Carmel community with diligence and a high level of professionalism. Students are representing the Neuroscience Undergraduate Program and The Ohio State University, while giving of their time to serve those in need. This is a unique program that allows students to employ their desire for serving fellow man, all the while gaining valuable insight into the world of medicine. We expect that our students will approach this opportunity with grace and respect.

What students can expect

Students will spend the first semester volunteering in any area of need as designated by the Mount Carmel volunteer coordinator. During the second semester, volunteers will be placed in a patient contact volunteer position. Mount Carmel West provides a 5 dollar meal voucher for cafeteria use every time a student volunteers.

Outcomes for not following program guidelines

Students who miss more than three shifts per semester will be terminated from the program. The program completes after the second semester. Students are welcome to return to Mount Carmel as a volunteer, but they must do so through the standard volunteer process. Students will only have one opportunity to participate in the program. Any student who fails to complete the program will not be eligible to return to Mount Carmel West as a volunteer during their time as a student.
