Women and other minority or marginalized groups often have to work twice has hard to gain half the recognition, promotions, raises, etc. of their counterparts. For women in particular, this can also have the added burden of trying to "have it all" and take care of their career and their family. Because of this, the L'Oreal Foundation and UNESCO are focusing on helping women enter into and stay in the sciences. You can read about their initiative here.
